Appearing on the May 10 edition of Fox News' America's Newsroom, former South Carolina Governor and current Fox News Contributor Mark Sanford became the latest media figure to push the bogus conspiracy theory that the botched Fast and Furious operation was actually a nefarious plot against the Second Amendment. Man sold nearly 50 guns on Chicago streets, federal charges say
A South Side felon has been charged in a federal complaint for peddling nearly 50 guns onto Chicago's streets in less than two weeks. Levaine Tanksley is accused of selling 47 guns, many of them semi-automatic pistols, to a confidential informant, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday. Tanksley was convicted in Cook County in 2006 of felony drug charges, making it illegal for him to possess the weapons, the complaint said. Tanksley allegedly met the informant at various locations around the city, including at his home in the Park Manor neighborhood and a parking lot in Chinatown. Hard to believe, but guns are legal in schools
People I've talked to are shocked to find out there's no law against people bringing concealed, loaded handguns onto school campuses if they have a concealed handgun license in Oregon. Most schools have policies prohibiting guns on school property, but a recent Oregon Court of Appeals ruling has raised questions about their enforceability -- and because most laws relating to guns must be approved by the Oregon Legislature and not by municipalities or other units of local government, those school policies prohibiting guns might not be binding. When Are Light Bulbs More Dangerous Than Guns?
Gunwise, the Republican National Convention in Tampa presents the party with some knotty issues. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has designated the August convention a "National Special Security Event." Guns will be prohibited inside the convention hall and in a safety perimeter around it. So the Republicans' own convention will not be able to showcase one of their favorite principles: that the presence of concealed guns "enhances public safety," as Representative Lamar Smith of Texas said recently. Open season for gun enthusiasts in Virginia begins July 1, as state residents will be allowed to purchase more than one handgun per month for the first time since 1993. The General Assembly voted to repeal its 19-year-old restriction on gun sales that stemmed from Virginia's days as a key cog in the "iron pipeline," when about 40 percent of guns traced from New York City crimes originated in Virginia. McDonnell, once among the most conservative voices in the legislature, has surprised his critics by working on kitchen-table issues such as jobs, schools and roads. Guns, however, will be allowed. The logic behind that is drawn from the U.S. constitution. How so?
